Description
Last of Sickert's four paintings on this theme; painted at 15 Fitzroy Street,Bloomsbury,London but inspired by a decayed room in a house on the corner of Granby Street and Mornington Square, Camden town, London; the model 'Hubby' was an old school friend of Sickert; it was this version of 'Ennui' which was the inspiration for Virginia Woolf's account of the painting published in her pamphlet on Sickert in 1934;
